Adam explains why Fernie and it's community is so unique
While at the Fernie Writers’ Conference a few years ago, I attended a workshop that not only changed my writing, but also changed me. One of the many ideas that our teacher John Keeble, shared with us, was the idea that a place’s geography shapes its inhabitants. Fernie provides an impressive and varied landscape – a river valley surrounded on all sides by mountains. Fernie’s residents are also varied and amazing. Fernie is home to many accomplished people including artists, entrepreneurs, writers, explorers, and athletes.

Jul 03, 2013
The Wednesday Concert and Market series brings Historic Downtown Fernie to life with musical entertainment, market stalls, children's entertainment, food carts and beverage gardens. Running weekly from July 3 until August 28 the series is a branch of the Fernie Chamber of Commerce's "Downtown Socials" hosted by the Arts Station, Fernie Fix and Fernie Mountain Market - an entirely non-profit community event to encourage residents and visitors to enjoy live music in the beautiful setting offered by the historic downtown.
The event runs from 5-9pm with music featured at 6-8pm. This market draws a variety of food and beverage vendors, along with a variety of items for purchase including jewellery, produce, and more. Kids activities are included, and a refreshment garden provided (the very popular aspect, highlighting Fernie Brewing Company beer and BC wines).

Monday May 13. There have been several reports of a grizzly bear on Uprooted Mountain Bike Trail
Remember, the safest bear encounter is the one prevented. Travel in groups and during daylight, make noise to warn bears of your presence, carry bear spray and know how to use it.
Please report wildlife sightings and incidents where there is a threat to human safety to the Ministry of Environment 24-hour hotline at 1-877-952-7277. This allows officers to identify current hot spot locations and work with both residents and bears to encourage bear use of natural habitats and food sources before the bear becomes habituated and/or a safety concern.
